Special projects

  • Awards a $500.00 scholarship to a college senior who will be participating in the student teaching block. The recipient receives a $500.00 check made payable to both the university and the student. Students applying for this scholarship must be a student at an accredited college or university in Kansas, and be a full-time resident of one of the following counties: Chase, Coffey, Greenwood, Lyon, Morris, Osage or Woodson.


  • Donates copies of the current Bill Martin, Jr. Award nominated  books to members’ classroom/school libraries.

  • Volunteers at the William Allen White Award Ceremony.

  • Provides a sponsorship to the Annual Franklin County Children’s Literature Festival.

  • Supports the Ethiopia Reads project

  • Provides IRA membership for an individual in a developing country.

  • Provides basic IRA membership for council officers.

Electronic Book Bag project unveiled

KRA's new Electronic Book Bag project was unveiled at the 2016 Fall Conference. Parents, students, and teachers can utilize these free electronic resources to help students engage and explore BMJ nominated and award winning picture books. Currently there are 5 book bags online with more set to be released in the coming weeks. The new website is located at www.electronicbookbags.org.
